There’s been a vibe change and this year’s new look Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards will celebrate inspirational young people with a festival feel.
Taking place at the iconic Platform venue in the heart of Glasgow city centre, it’ll be an event to remember, packed with entertainment, street food, a red carpet reception and, most importantly, the stories of remarkable young people.
Since its launch in 2006, the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards has been Scotland’s only national awards evening for the young people of Scotland which recognise the outstanding achievements of 11 to 26-year-olds and the extraordinary work they do to improve their local communities and the lives of others.
Nominations are now open for 2023 and Young Scot is calling on people across Scotland to highlight the triumphs of young people and shine a light on their invaluable contributions – categories include entertainment, health & wellbeing, environment and sport and are now open on youngscotawards.com.
The results will be announced on 8 June at the energy-filled Platform event.
The winners will join a prestigious roll call of previous recipients including RuPaul’s Drag Race champion, comedian Paul Black and social media star, Jamie Genevieve.
Education equality pioneer Sameeha Rehman from North Lanarkshire won the ‘Enhancing Education’ award in recognition of launching social enterprise Ubuntu Scotland. The organisation helps to increase equality in the education sector and Sameeha has successfully taken Ubuntu Scotland into primary and secondary schools across Glasgow and Lanarkshire to help educate teachers and young people.
Commenting on the impact of winning the award, Sameeha said: “It was brilliant to even be nominated, so to find out I’d won – especially in such a tough category where I was up against some truly inspirational young people – was amazing.”
Kirsten Urquhart, Chief Executive at Young Scot, said: “The Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards shines a light on the incredible achievements and inspirational stories of young people from across Scotland. If you know a young person who goes above and beyond for others or their local community, then please nominate them now.”
The Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards is made possible thanks to the generous support of its sponsors, including Arnold Clark, Solace Scotland, sportscotland, SSS and Xsite.
