Will you follow in the footsteps of last years winners Cath & Frank who danced the Jive to “I Like To Boogie” and wooed the judges and audience to take the glitter ball trophies! Hear their stories below.
Cath said: “I joined the Hospice team in May 2021 as a Speciality Doctor and within a week or two I decided I would like to join in some fundraising activities. To my delight and amazement I was told about Strictly and signed up immediately (I actually sent an email to the events team begging to take part).
We met as a group Halloween 2021 and I was paired with Frank there and then as we matched in both energy and enthusiasm. We agreed we would do the jive as it matched our personalities and set to work with the choreographers Gordon and Rebecca within a few weeks.
Learning the jive and performing it on the night was probably the most fun I’ve ever had and the fact that we were helping to raise money for such a worthy cause made it all the better. All of us who participated are still in touch and we are planning a night out at some point (maybe to this year’s Strictly so we can critique the newbies).
I can guarantee that stepping outside your comfort zone will be well rewarded as you’ll make wonderful memories whilst having an absolute ball, all to raise money for the hospice – which is the most important thing”.
Frank said: “I applied after being persuaded by my niece Rosemary who has participated in several fundraising activities for the hospice and initially had reservations but there was no need.
Although I love dancing at family gatherings, this was a challenge even though the fundraising aspect can seem a little daunting. I found people where generous and encouraged from the onset.
At the meet and greet Cath and I were partnered together we just clicked. We both wanted to dance the jive which I dedicated to my sister Marie who sadly succumbed to cancer. She loved to dance to the jive. Sadly we never got the opportunity to dance together, however Cath and I both had a ball, fortunately our training and dedication, encouraged by Gordon and Rebecca who had great patience cumulated in us taking the wonderful glitter ball winning the 2022 title.
Everyone who took part was a winner, all very supportive and encouraging, raising money for the hospice which makes it such a worthwhile event to participate in. So uplifting and memorable, embrace the experience, it's such a great opportunity to support a great cause and so rewarding”.
