Works to transform the play parks at Campbell Street in Renfrew, Ardgryffe Park in Houston, Churchill Drive in Bishopton, Crags Road in Paisley and Elm Drive/Sycamore Avenue in Johnstone are currently underway or set to begin - and the first play park to reopen with brand-new equipment is Dunvegan Avenue in Elderslie.
Local communities, including schools, community groups and elected members, were asked for what they thought should be included in their area and this feedback shaped the plans for each play park.
New equipment includes aerial runways, tower multiplay units, basket swings, rope nets, parent and toddler swings, and inclusive roundabouts.
Councillor Michelle Campbell, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “We recognise that play parks are key parts of our communities which give young people and families a place to visit to become more active and have fun.
“This investment has been significant and has meant towns and villages across Renfrewshire have seen a boost to their community facilities, with play equipment that they’ve asked for being installed into their local play parks.
“I’m delighted to see the latest set are getting ready to open and we’ll continue to work with local people to ensure we create exciting, inclusive play parks for them to visit in Renfrewshire.”
The first phase saw eleven play parks receive brand-new equipment, including Kilbarchan Park, Sandyflats and Ellerslie Street in Johnstone, Tinto Square in Renfrew, Lochwinnoch Park, Barwood Park in Erskine and Maxwelton Park, East End Park, Durrockstock Park, Morar Drive and Ben Lawers Park in Paisley, and Robertson Park in Renfrew received a new outdoor gym.
The projects have been funded from Renfrewshire Council’s Parks Capital Investment Fund, the Council’s Green Spaces, Parks and Play Areas and Villages Investment Fund, the Scottish Government’s Play Area Renewal Fund, community fundraising, and the Renfrew Local Partnership supported the creation of an outdoor gym in Robertson Park.
