The call led to Tom Robinson recommending Bobby's gigs at The Boarding House to his mate Elvis Costello on Twitter in a bid to get him to play Scotland!
Bobby Motherwell, entrepreneur, musician and founder of Mildred's Dairy Music Promotions, is the organiser of the intimate niche gigs at The Boarding House that supports new Scottish talent and some big names in the music industry, from Rab Noakes and Jill Jackson to Tom Robinson and James Grant.
Bobby Motherwell, comments on how it came about. He said: The return of the gigs was prompted by a call and a tweet from the British Singer Tom Robinson who champions the work of new emerging artists to his mate Elvis Costello. I was in London and tweeted that I was going to see Elvis Costello at Hammersmith in London and then to King Lear at the Globe. Elvis Costello responded to my tweet hoping that I could tell the difference by the end of the night!... and that he was 'Honoured you are putting us on your dance card.'
Friends, family and venue regulars at The Boarding House, noticing Elvis' response to me then piled on asking/pleading him to come play our wee venue.
Then, Tom Robinson (who has played at our venue and is returning in October 2022) joined the conversation and recommended the venue to Elvis, tweeting 'Hey Elvis - yes I can definitely recommend The Boarding House, Bobby runs a tight ship and looks after his guests regally.'
We are honoured Tom Robinson is returning and will feature along with Dean Owens and Kirsten Adamson, Martin Stephenson and Jill Jackson.
Communication is ongoing and I am hoping to persuade Elvis to follow the likes of Tom Robinson, Glen Tillbrook, Chas n Dave, Albert Lee, James Grant, Karine Polwart, Martin Stephenson, Kevin McDermott, Blue Rose Code, Roddy Hart, Rab Noakes, Jill Jackson, Findlay Napier and many others to play at our wee music venue in Renfrewshire.
This is still an incredibly difficult time in the recovery of live music. We need fans to buy tickets and attend live gigs as they offer a vital lifeline to the music industry and in bringing fans and musicians together.
