The Art Department, Paisley Ltd, which opened in the former Allders Department store in February 2022, has moved to a new home at 9-11 Causeyside Street, Paisley, PA1 1UW. Formerly an Argos store (1986-2020), the building is the original MacArthur Brothers Outfitters store originally built in 1931 and is considered an Art Deco exemplar and is part of the Townscape Heritage Conservation Area. It will be fully refurbished with the help of Renfrewshire Council’s Sustainable Communities Fund, via the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The premises comprise of three floors and a roof terrace. The development will include two gallery floors, an art shop, creative learning space, artists’ studios and offices.
The Art Department’s popular workshop programme, for adults and young people, commenced in February and features a variety of classes on mixed media; collage and print making; glass-art; drawing; painting and sewing. Workshops are led by - Ann Vance, Eòghann MacColl, Iona Kewney, Lilja Husmo, Lucy Dorrian, Marion Gardyne and Jane McInally.
