Running from Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December 2023, the exhibition will showcase a range of unique, beautifully modelled layouts from all over the UK, in various scales and gauges and from different eras.
The show will take place on the first floor and ground floor of The Art Department at The Paisley Shopping Centre with 36 layouts to view – the smallest is just over 1ft long and the biggest is 40ft long. The layouts cover N, HO, OO, EM, 009 and O scale which is almost every scale that’s commonly modelled and there will be over 12 traders taking part. Several of the layouts have never been seen in Scotland before and four or five are debuting at this new show.
The Elderslie-based club which has 30+ members, was founded in 1969 by modellers residing in Paisley and Renfrewshire. The club was formed by members of The West of Scotland Model Railway Club. The club members held exhibitions and local craft fairs in Paisley Town Hall for many years. Originally, the club was part of the Chrysler Car Plant’s Social Club but when they acquired premises in the Burnthills’ Industrial Complex in Johnstone, the club was renamed Renfrewshire Model Railway Club. In 1979, the present premises were purchased from the Church of Scotland.
Mark Davies, Renfrewshire Model Railway Club, commented: “Following on from the success of our first show at The Art Department last year which attracted hundreds of visitors, we are back for 2023’s show which will be our biggest to date. There will be a wide array of exhibits to see, not just for model railway enthusiasts, but for people of all ages and families from the local area and beyond.”
Steven Thomson, Creative Director, The Art Department & Outspoken Arts Scotland, commented: “We’re thrilled to be hosting this major exhibition for a second year. We’re excited to hear that it’s going to be the club’s biggest show to date, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to The Art Department.”
