Memorial on the Anniversary of the execution of the seven accused and found
guilty of witchcraft on June 10th 1697 and of the one that committed suicide.
Our dark history starts and ends with a Curse.
In 1696 a young maid, Catherine Campbell is caught drinking milk, by the 11yr old daughter Christian Shaw, of Bagarran House, This was to be the last largest witch hunt in Scotland.
And the Curse - with her last breath Agnes Naismith laid a dying woman's curse on the Paisley people and their descendants.
In 2008 the lost horseshoe was replaced by a beautiful Tondo by Sandy Stoddart.
On 8th March 2022, International Womans Day, the First minister of Scotland gave an apology on behalf of the Scottish Government, for “injustice on a colossal scale". This started the process of asking for a Pardon and later an apology from the Church of Scotland.
