Why Attachment Matters in our Community

About Why Attachment Matters in our Community

Early, secure attachment relationships allows a child to develop trust for others and self-reliance so as they grow, they can feel safe to explore their world, form positive relationships and fulfil their potential.

For one, or a variety of factors, some children do not have a primary carer whom they can depend on to consistently meet their needs. They do not learn to value themselves or to trust others nor understand and manage their emotions. Survival behaviours make it difficult for them to learn and to build positive relationships.

However, with support and guidance, there is hope. Building quality relationships with later attachment figures can give them a sense of security as part of their community and allow them to develop positive ways of relating and behaving.

This session will be a formal presentation on attachment theory and the impact of insecure attachment and early trauma. We shall then open the discussion to hear, share and explore practical ways to build positive relationships across our communities.
