Experience opera through a different lens – in an all-encompassing spectacular that puts you right in the middle of the action.
A wretched clown, miserable in making others laugh; a devastating rejection from the woman he loves... Bill Bankes-Jones directs a company of nearly 200 – including The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, a cast of international soloists, a professional and community chorus, and both professional and amateur circus performers – in this blood and guts tale of love and jealousy.
Specially created to be staged outwith the walls of our usual theatre venues, promenade-style in a ‘circus’ tent, Pagliacci is set to become an event to remember. Leoncavallo’s music, performed so often by Pavarotti, is packed with energy and pulses with passion. A showpiece for principals, chorus and orchestra alike, the score evokes the harsh romance of Calabrian life so effectively that it has become the soundtrack to a generation of ‘Mafioso’ films, including The Untouchables.
